The integral part of an Aromatherapy treatment is the use of essential oils and the blending of them to create a completely different aroma. Essential oils are extracted from a variety of different plants, herbs, trees and spices, have a range of therapeutic effects and are readily available to buy. What is not always known is that essential oils are extremely powerful and if used incorrectly can make a client feel ill. They are also deemed toxic so should never be ingested. Some essential oils have safety factors which means they cannot be used on everyone. For example, Rosemary is good for a variety of conditions such as flu, colds, arthritis and poor circulation but as a stimulant, should not be used on someone with Epilepsy or high blood pressure. This is one reason why I teach the use of essential oils so that they can be used safely but still be enjoyed.
